读完全球通史，我就对中国*代史有了些粗略的了解，如果想要真正了解中国*代都发生了什么，有什么影响，与西方国家的不同在哪里的话，就一定要先看看同时期都发生了什么。
1840年时，一位英国商人首次开辟了四条横渡大西洋的定期航运线，这也标志了西方航海史进入了一个全新的阶段。
中国这时的政策叫：闭关锁国。清朝上层这一愚蠢的基本国策，让中华民族为此付出了巨大的代价。
1840是中国*代史的开端，就在前一年，林则徐发起了令所有当代中国人拍手称快的虎门销烟。这一行为不仅没有让林则徐飞黄腾达，继续为清朝奉献自己的力量，反而给他带来了为期5年的流放生涯。这不仅是林则徐自己的悲哀，更是整个清朝、整个中国的悲哀。
在西方科技、社会飞速进步的同时，清朝上下几亿人似乎集体把永乐大帝时下西洋的光辉历史遗忘。这一现象最终换来的是，中国用2000余年积攒下来的文化、物质、科技领先的基础在200年间被挥霍一空，还落后西方一大截。
这一差距在两次鸦片战争中被完全暴露出来：英法联军轻而易举地打进了清朝的首都，在世界上最富丽堂皇的皇家园林里制造了一桩人尽皆知的惨案火烧圆明园。这不仅仅是科技差距就可以解释的，主要的原因，还是制度的差距。

主导人类历史的根本是人的”欲望“，而文明的出现助长了这种欲望，欲望推动着人类社会的进步，同时也是人类悲剧的根源；欲望导致了战争与征服，这个过程中同时也创造着人类文明，欲望是人的本质特征，关于欲望的褒贬我们很难判定。
人类历史是一部战争史，至今我们无法否认这一点；人类都有和*和幸福的欲望，不幸的是历史向我们展示的是另一幅画境——战争和痛苦，这或许是人类自身的宿命，一方面满怀希望、一方面希望又不断破灭继而陷入痛苦；然而，就是这种希望和痛苦的交织铸造了灿烂的的人类文明和不朽的思想光辉，事实就是如此，我们为之骄傲的人类文明是从痛苦和不幸中压榨出来的。
