Although the Arbor Day has passed, but we plant trees enthusiasm unabated.

After studying the calligraphy in the morning, I came to my father and mother yongquan bulwark against side. Because we come late, there have been many people in planting trees, the above also hung a small brand, tree name it sign says: there are "sakura" later, "golden", "ice cream"... I have been think planting trees is very simple, dig a hole and put the saplings in, just a matter of. May want to return to, reality and fantasy is not the same.

I heard someone say: "wow, even the hole is not good, also let us with a shovel?" I hurriedly ran to the a place I want to plant trees, use shovels to dig a hole first, father and mother also came to help. Funny, I think it is only in play, one not careful, is just a scoop shovel out the soil got on my ankle. I hurriedly out, but there are some brown "glue" in my pants.

Because I was the first time to plant trees, do not know how to start. Thanks to my mother, she a carrying a small barrel, in one hand and a shovel. I silently in heart: "small trees, to hurry and grow up!"

I had a very meaningful "Arbor Day".

The first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was the brainchild of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902), a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from Michigan. Throughout his long and productive career,

Morton worked to improve agricultural techniques in his adopted state and throughout the United States when he served as President Grover Cleveland's Secretary of Agriculture. But his most important legacy is Arbor Day.

Morton (photo, right) felt that Nebraska's landscape and economy would benefit from the wide-scale planting of trees. He set an

example himself planting orchards, shade trees and wind breaks on his own farm and he urged his neighbours to follow suit. Morton's real opportunity, though, arrived when he became a member of Nebraska's state board of agriculture.

He proposed that a special day be set aside dedicated to tree planting and increasing awareness of the importance of trees. Nebraska's first Arbor Day was an amazingsuccess. More than one million trees were planted. A second Arbor Day took place in 1884 and the young state made it an annual legal

holiday in 1885, using April 22nd to coincide with Morton's birthday. In the years following that first Arbor Day, Morton's idea spread beyond Nebraska with Kansas, Tennessee, Minnesota and Ohio all

proclaiming their own Arbor Days. Today all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day although the dates may vary in keeping with the local climate. (State Arbor Days) At the federal level, in 1970, President Richard Nixon proclaimed the last Friday in April as National Arbor Day. Arbor Day is also now celebrated in other countries including Australia. Variations are celebrated as

'Greening Week' of Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India. Julius Sterling Morton would be proud. Sometimes one good idea can make a real difference.

y is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the trees on your property and plan for the future. Inspect your trees. Note any broken branches or evidence of disease or insect infestation. Think about how planting new

trees might improve the look of your property or provide wind or heat protection. Take a trip to your local nursery to see what's available and to get new ideas. Walk around your neighbourhood. Are there any public areas where tree planting or tree maintenance might make a real difference to your

community? Talk with your neighbours. Find out what their opinions are. And, oh yes, plant a tree.

In many countries it has long been the tradition to hold an annual tree or forest festival. The origin of such celebrations dates back to antiquity and is in the dawn of religious feeling and awe for what trees represented. However, Arbor Day, as it is commonly known today, is of American origin and evolved from conditions peculiar to the Great Plains. It was first observed in Nebraska in 1872.

The idea, conceived by J.S. Morton, then a member of the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture, was one of forest conservation. It was a move to promote replanting, following deforestation, and to plant up treeless areas. The idea has spread widely to other lands where it is variously celebrated as the Festival of Trees, Greening Week of Japan, The New Years Days of Trees in Israel, The Tree-loving Week of Korea, The Reforestation Week of Yugoslavia, The Students Afforestation Day of Iceland and The National Festival of Tree Planting in India. Arbor Day in its various forms is now recognised in more than fifty countries.

On Arbor Day, particular attention is drawn to the part trees play in our lives. Its not just a day to plant trees and then forget the gesture for another twelve months. Planting a tree one day is no credit to us if, during the rest of the year, we neglect to care for it and those already growing. Our thought on Arbor Day should be an expression of enduring feeling, thought and action and not just one single, isolated flame of interest.

In schools and other community groups, this day can be celebrated in many different ways.

·By planting trees or shrubs in school grounds, along neighbouring streets or in civic parks.

·By adopting a patch of bush, with the landowners consent, and caring for it by removal of weeds, rubbish, etc, by preparing firebreaks and by fencing and making paths to reduce trampling.

·By presenting a play or mime about trees in the history of Australia. www.zuowenla.cn

·As a class activity or common interest group go on a visit to a bush area with a spokesperson to explain the characteristics of plant species and their niche in the natural environment.

·Collect some tree seeds, germinate them in a classroom, and plant out the seedling.

·Carry out identification of trees in a specific part of your school or neighbourhood. A tree labelling ceremony could also be arranged.

·Compile a list of everyday objects that are made of wood or wood-based materials, and find out how the wood was processed, where it came from and whatever else you can.

Trees and shrubs, whether native or introduced to WA, provide opportunities for the interest and study by the whole community, and when we walk around our own neighbourhood or drive through the countryside, we can appreciate the importance of such a diversity of plants to the well being of humanity.

In many countries it has long been the tradition to hold an annual tree or forest festival. The origin of such celebrations dates back to antiquity and is in the dawn of religious feeling and awe for what trees represented. However, Arbor Day, as it is commonly known today, is of American origin and evolved from conditions peculiar to the at Plains. It was first observed in Nebraska in 1872.

The idea, conceived by J.S. Morton, then a member of the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture, was one of forest conservation. It was a move to promote replanting, following deforestation, and to plant up treeless areas. The idea has spread widely to other lands where it is variously celebrated as the 'Festival of Trees', 'ening Week' of Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India. Arbor Day in its various forms is now recognised in more than fifty countries.

It was fine on March 12. I got up early that day . All the students in our school went to the hill to plant trees .

We arrived at the hill at eight oclock . The teacher asked each of us to plant at least six trees . Then we started digging , planting and watering . We all worked so hard that we could finish our tasks ahead of tim e . Among us , Wang Lin , our monitor set a good example for us . Though he was ill , he worked harder . When he finished his task , he went on to help others without even a little rest . He was wet all over after work .“ I must learn from him ,” I said to myself . Looking at the lines of the young trees , we smiled happily , forgetting our tiredness .

Today is Arbor Day, planting trees in our school will hold a activity, news spread, the students can be happy, some even jumped up. On the way to the tree planting, the classmates all the way spring breeze, like a spring loaded under foot. The country garden overflow cui yuan's big lawn, students scrambling to immediately picked up a hoe to dig a hole to plant trees. I also picked up a hoe, bow back, bent hard digging holes. The great lawn immediately there was hoeing and classmates happy laughter. Live in the neighbourhood of grandpa, grandma heard our laughter, all come out watching and smiling. Really as good as feast. To plant trees is not an easy thing, I only do for a while, began to soft hand, feet also fast support not to live, not careful, hey, I fell down.

But see the classmates some digging holes, some saplings, and water, many classmates was too tired to sweat, asthma hush also refused to take a rest, I also unwilling to lag behind, stood up and continue to dig again. Dig! Dig, a big bucket of buffalos finally dig a well, companion and I immediately put the saplings in a pit, covered with soil, step, and then poured some water, a tree seedlings and so rooted in the soil. Ah! Added a green country garden again, one more green life on the earth! We are delighted. Next, we have done more energised, a hole to dig a pit, and plant trees. We kind of a tree a tree again, slowly forget fatigue, a trickle of sweat falls in the dirt, we are helping to clean. A gust of wind blew the tree a shake a put, like to see us so industrious, sing to us all. Even seedlings to encourage us, we would be more hard, one, two, three... Seedlings on the increase.

More than an hour passed, and under the hard work of the students, more than 130 small trees swaggering and settled down in deep emerald green garden. We looked at the sight of saplings, into a beautiful daydream: this is our own hands the trees planted, we will grow up with the young trees. When we grow up to become useful, these saplings will also be hits the towering trees...

The grass grows out of the earth. On March 12, when Arbor Day came, people went to the fields to plant trees and make a contribution to create a beautiful blue sky. So Arbor Day at 7 o clock in the morning, the day before I came to the 65 construction building by bus, after more than an hour, reach XiYing unwilling fall under the village, 40 minutes on foot to reach our destination TiZiShan to plant trees.

Started more than one hundred and twenty people in the team, the team leader to give us the division of labor is very fine, have a dig soil, water, watering, planting group and the monitoring group and so on several quality team, I and the children were assigned to the group. With a spade, we carried the pick, the hoe, the bucket, and began to plant the tree. Men draw water and dig holes, women and children water and plant trees. We are very particular about the quality of tree planting. The tree pit should be 30 cm long, 40 cm wide and 40 cm deep.

Ill dig up the tree and plant the small trees first. I dug into a large stone in the process of digging buffalos, I good at hard to dig out a great stone, and the pit of the small stone picked out one by one, and then put the saplings in, put the impurities of the good earth with the hand around the tree, with my little fist tamp the soil, then just pick it out with little stones around the little tree base into a small cofferdam, easy to save the water and soil, then pour a peanut oil drums full of water, so my little tree species was finished. And put my name and the little sign of hope in my little tree.

As we walked down the mountain path with weariness, we looked back at the small saplings we had just planted and swayed gently in the breeze, as if waving to us to say BYE-BYE! Our hearts are filled with happiness, through a meaningful day, I hope that next year I can see the lush green mountains. May the whole world grow a sapling and watch them grow, how interesting it is! The future of the earth must be green.

The first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was the brainchild of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902),a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from Michigan. Throughout his long and productive career, Morton worked to improve agricultural techniques in his adopted state and throughout the United States when he served as President Grover Cleveland's Secretary of Agriculture. But his most important legacy is Arbor Day.

Morton felt that Nebraska's landscape and economy would benefit from the wide-scale planting of trees. He set an example himself planting orchards, shade trees and wind breaks on his own farm and he urged his neighbours to follow suit. Morton's real opportunity, though, arrived when he became a member of Nebraska's state board of agriculture. He proposed that a special day be set aside dedicated to tree planting and increasing awareness of the importance of trees. Nebraska's first Arbor Day was an amazing success. More than one million trees were planted. A second Arbor Day took place in 1884 and the young state made it an annual legal holiday in 1885, using April 22nd to coincide with Morton's birthday.

In the years following that first Arbor Day, Morton's idea spread beyond Nebraska with Kansas, Tennessee, Minnesota and Ohio all proclaiming their own Arbor Days. Variations are celebrated as 'Greening Week' of Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India. Julius Sterling Morton would be proud. Sometimes one good idea can make a real difference.

For the homeowner, Arbor Day is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the trees on your property and plan for the future. Inspect your trees. Note any broken branches or evidence of disease or insect infestation. Think about how planting new trees might improve the look of your property or provide wind or heat protection. Take a trip to your local nursery to see what's available and to get new ideas. Walk around your neighbourhood. Are there any public areas where tree planting or tree maintenance might make a real difference to your community? Talk with your neighbours. Find out what their opinions are. And, oh yes, plant a tree.
