recently divorced, i was in my 20s, had no job and was on my way downtown to go the rounds of the employment offices. i had no umbrella, for my old one had fallen apart, and i could not afford another one.
i sat down in the streetcar--and there against the seat was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle inlaid with gold and necks of bright enamel. i had never seen anything so lovely.
i examined the handle and saw a name engraved among the golden scrolls. the usual procedure would have been to turn in the umbrella to the conductor, but on impulse i decided to take it with me and find the owner myself.

今天，我们“多乐英语20xx年圣诞联欢会”在漯河小学大礼堂快乐举行。

Christmas is the time for exchanging presents. Stephen and Niko had been thinking about their Christmas lists (a list of things they wish "Santa"to give them for Christmas) for a long time. So one by one, we went through all the presents. Mr. and Mrs. Stapczynski had bought me everything I had written on my Christmas list--and a lot more! I got music CDs, film DVDs, clothes, books… I was very happy, and I didn't know how to express my appreciation for what they had done for me.
Stephen and Niko had gotten a lot of presents too, and they had already been trying out their new games!
In the afternoon, we went to Mrs. Stapczynski's brother, Uncle Stan's house. They had prepared a marvelous meal for us. A lot of their friends and relatives also came. I saw Stephen and Niko's grandparents, Yiayia and Papou (words of grandma and grandpa in Greek--Mrs. Stapczynski's parents came from Greece, so they like the boys using Greek words to call them). They were very kind to me, and treated me just like one of their family members. We had a very luxurious meal, consisting of turkey, beef, pork, and all sorts of other food.
After the meal, when all the stomachs were full and everyone was feeling drowsy6 from all the food, we just sat around the table and chatted, just like what we Chinese people do at the Spring Festival. After all, Christmas, like the Spring Festival, is a time for us to get away from our busy lives, a time for family gathering, and a time to have some fun.
This month is December. I like December a lot, because Christmas Day is on December 25th. Oh, Christmas Day is coming. I will do many things and get some presents. I think I will very happy.
On Christmas Day, I often play with my friends and go shopping with my parents. But, this year, I will do some other different things. In the morning, I want to listen to music and eat some good food with my sister. In the afternoon, I will go to my English school to have a good party with my classmates. Next, happy time is coming, the moon goes up. I will meet my friends in my house. We will play some happy games. We can dance, sing together and play with Father Christmas. We can also eat cakes, hamburgers and chicken. Health is important for us. So, we do some funny sports. We can jump, hop, turn around and so on…And this day is my best friend —— Ren Yun’s birthday. I will feel happy.
Oh, my Christmas Day life is very colorful, busy and happy. I love Christmas Day.

maybe the spring festival is much more important and interesting than christmas, but i like christmas day better. because we can spend time with our friends and classmates during christmas. when it is snowy,
christmas becomes much more lovely, just like in fairytales. i can imagine i am in a fairytale, the girl who sold the matches is my friend, the ugly duck becoming more and more beautiful and so on. what a beautiful place! so we can also call christmas “snowy lovely day.”
on christmas day, shops are red and green. there are so many christmas cards, christmas hats, christmas dolls and many colourful things. so shops look very beautiful. we can give a card or a doll to our friends and say “merry christmas.” by the way, i think studying can also become much more interesting.
